About Us

The Bluewater Health Foundation was established in 2002 along with the amalgamation of the hospitals in Lambton County. The goal of the Foundation is to make a significant and lasting positive effect on the health of our community.

The Foundation is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors comprised of community leaders, financial experts and committed philanthropists. We ensure that both small gifts and large endowments are used to support the Missions of the Foundation and Bluewater Health.

We take the stewardship of your gifts seriously and are committed to earning and maintaining the community's trust by using your donation in the manner to which it was given.

Your donation to Bluewater Health Foundation can fuel miracles that will last a lifetime and beyond.

Our History
Our community has a long history of caring for and supporting our hospitals.

In 1998, the three independent hospital corporations in Lambton Country, St. Joseph's (est. 1946) Sarnia General (est. 1896) and Charlotte Eleanor Englehart (est. 1911) formed an alliance to better serve the hospital needs of the people of Lambton County. A single management team and Board of Directors was implemented.

In support of this alliance the three hospital foundations formed an alliance called the Lambton Hospitals Foundation.
In 2003 Sarnia General and Charlotte Eleanor Englehart moved from the alliance to an amalgamation to form a new hospital corporation. St. Joseph's Health Care Society withdrew from the provision of the hospital services in Lambton County and sold their assets to the new corporation. The new corporation was renamed Bluewater Health.

In tandem with the hospitals amalgamation, Sarnia General Hospital Foundation and Lambton Hospitals Foundation amalgamated to form a new legal, independent corporation called Bluewater Health Foundation.

Programs & Services
In 2007 the provincial government gave final approval to move forward with the new hospital building project, which was the largest public sector project ever to be built in Lambton County.
Through "Growing Expectation", "Project Lambton Hospital" and "State of the Heart" campaigns, our community raised $ 40 million towards our 10% share of the bricks and mortar for our new hospital building. This also included some funding for new medical equipment and technology.
Bluewater Health Foundation was asked, and agreed to fund an additional $6.5 million to equip the state-of-the-art building. We have raised $5 million of that goal to date and continue to focus on this great need.
